Tom O'Mara
Bagpiper

Tom joined the band in October of 2009 shortly after moving to the Portland area from Baltimore. He’s longed to play bagpipes for years but has always lived too close to others to learn without offending lots of people. A little space and a lot of great instruction from Tom Ryan has him on his way to becoming a full playing/marching member of the band.

Always interested in traditional or Celtic music, Tom also plays guitar and concertina. He has found that the physical challenges of playing the bagpipe are unlike anything he’s ever come up against in the world of musical instruments, but they are also what make the pipes so moving.

Tom lives in Scarborough with his wife and two girls, and his deaf dog who seems to be his biggest fan. He has found the band to be very welcoming and supportive and looks forward to watching it grow.
